So far so close: the new frontiers of business and inclusion

How about working from the white beach of a tropical island today? Smart working allows people to meet their deadlines while being free to live their life. This promotes increased job productivity and more efficient connections: being your own boss equals happy people, equals more positive, vital and productive employees. A study of a pharmaceutical company found that customer’s loyalty increased when employees were happy and engaged. Also a research published in 2019 via the London School of Economics and Political Science has found a correlation between employee satisfaction and firm performance.
When people are interconnected and included the working machine profits even more, no matter where they are located. A survey conducted in 2019 by the Harris Poll on behalf of Salesforce and based on business owners’ insights worldwide has shown that male leaders mention “finding the right talent” as the main constrain for their enterprise’s growth, while female leaders put “lack of time” near the top of the list. It is interesting to note that both these obstacles could be mitigated through the application of smart working solutions, for example through the extensive use of marketplace platforms which can help recruit the best fitting and talented collaborator very quickly, thus saving time which can be employed for other tasks.
There are some other good points to highlight. Digital platforms increase business and promote inclusion: they should be operated as an “artificial intelligence” with the person at the center, they should accelerate the benefits for everyone involved, taking in consideration that business is made of human power. It is not only about matching the employer with the employees. As shown by the statistics from the Harris Poll survey mentioned above, men count on self-discipline whereas women consider relationship and communication skills to be the main key for success. Building a routine to deliver work, as well as experiencing a nice work-life balance, both stimulate employees to increase their company’s business and to be engaged with more different work teams.
As Nicolò Boggian, co-founder of Black Tie and of the digital platform White Libra, said, “Smart working is not about working from home. Smart working is freedom, responsibility, diversity, collaboration, agility. It is very reductive to talk about smart working where people have fixed roles, depend on a static top-down hierarchy, work always with the same teams, don’t have the opportunity of autonomously favoring innovation and initiatives. It is right to talk about smart working when there is a clear plan to change the approach to work and not only at one’s work place. It is a matter of productivity, culture and innovation.”
The new frontier is a digital platform that is all inclusive (and we’re not talking about the resort’s package on the dreamy island!): diversity, connection, flexibility, communication, promptness, inclusion, engagement, training, innovation… This is the change you want to see in the future, whether you are a full time employee, a freelance professional, a company manager or an entrepreneur. Just use your laptop wisely: you can’t carry it along while swimming in the blue ocean.
